Webinar: Increasing the Spectral Variability of Light Indoors: What are we learning at PNNL?

The enthusiasm for healthier buildings has aligned with advances in LED lighting systems and research exploring the human biological response to light. This alignment has led to a rise in requests for tunable lighting and increased access to daylight. This presentation by three researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) will focus on new software tools that support more accurate modeling of spectral variations of daylight and electric light, the initial results from different approaches to varying electric lighting in healthcare applications, and how occupants are responding to tunable lighting systems based on recorded button press data.

PRESENTERS:

Jessica Collier is a Lighting Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, with a professional and educational background in lighting design and architecture. Her current research is focused on evaluating the application of advanced lighting systems through simulation and field projects in support of the U.S. Department of Energy Lighting R&D program.

Sarah Safranek is a Lighting Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Sarah received her Bachelor and Master degrees in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado. Her current research involves conducting lighting simulations and field evaluations of advanced lighting systems in support of the U.S. Department of Energy Lighting R&D Program.

Andrea Wilkerson is a Lighting Research Engineer at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, supporting the U.S. Department of Energy Lighting R&D program. She earned her doctorate from Penn State and her BS and MAE from the University of Nebraska in the respective architectural engineering programs. Andrea serves on IES committees, the IALD Education Trust Board of Directors and the NCQLP Exam committee.
