Join the Dallas Lighting Community

Grow your career through IES membership

We are the Dallas based section of the Illuminating Engineering Society, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to all aspects of the ART and SCIENCE of ILLUMINATION.

The IES is the recognized technical authority on illumination. For over a century its objective has been to communicate information on all aspects of good lighting practice to its members, to the lighting community, and to consumers through a variety of programs, publications and services. The strength of the IES is its diversified membership consisting of: engineers, architects, designers, educators, students, contractors, distributors, utility personnel, manufacturers, and scientists, all contributing to the mission of the society: to advance knowledge and disseminate information of the improvement of the lighted environment to the benefit of society.

The IES is a forum for the exchange of ideas and information and a vehicle for its members professional development and recognition. Through its committees, with hundreds of qualified members from the lighting and user communities, the IES correlates research, investigations, and discussions to guide lighting experts and laypersons via consensus-based lighting recommendations.

The Lighting Singularity is Near: Accelerating
Toward a Brighter Future

Wednesday, February 7, 2024 | 11:30am –
12:45pm

Envision a future where a mere blink of an eye unveils a century
of progress, where today’s wonders become tomorrow’s norms, where previously imagined possibilities seamlessly merge with our reality. The imminent Singularity is dawning on our horizon: a transformative era where technological growth surges with unimaginable speed.

We instinctively view technological advances as a steady linear
climb; the reality of most innovations is in stark contrast, exploding
forward in a sharp exponential trajectory. Lighting stands as a prime
example, evolving dramatically from the primal warmth of the flame to the
modern efficiency and miniaturization of LEDs. We are now entering an age where lighting transcends traditional boundaries, merging with the automation and intuitive adaptability of AI, and even stepping beyond physicality itself, venturing into the realm of virtual reality, challenging the limits of our natural world.

As we traverse the history of lighting tools, each milestone we
encounter is not just a historical footnote, but a step toward the tangible,
rapidly unfolding Singularity. Embark on this transformative journey with me, where we’ll explore innovations in lighting that are not merely technological leaps, but giant strides into a future radiant with potential, exceeding our wildest imaginations and fundamentally altering the fabric our reality.

Attendees will receive (1) IES CEU.
